UF0A3899Amaiyah is a natural dancer, she fell in love with belly dance at young age; from the first show she saw at City Museum in Saint Louis, MO. She was drawn by the beauty and confidence of women enjoying themselves and not caring about age, color, or body type and she wanted to be like them.

Luckily for her, the internet is resourceful and YouTube was around, she spent her free time watching belly dance videos practicing some dance moves and watching different styles of belly dancing. Her favorite style is tribal fusion, but at the time she didn’t know anyone teaching that style.

It wasn’t until her senior year of high school she took a basic belly dancing class at her YMCA with Sherri Danger. After a year of taking classes with Sherri, she invited her to be a part of a hafla hosted by Tandava, which became her first performance. There, she met the fabulous Ami Amore and Exotic Rhythms Belly Dance, a tribal fusion belly dance gang and the rest was history. She started taking classes at Ami’s studio as soon as she could, and after two years of dancing with hard work and dedication in her student troupe, Mosaic , she has been honored to fill a long time dream of dancing in a troupe, as being a part of the ERBD gang!

Now, not only is she with the troupe but she is teaching a weekly Wednesday morning class, 10 am at Amorticious on Cherokee and is one of the ERBD’s teachign the Monday, 6pm class. Interested in taking her Rise n Shimmy class or another bellydance class? Sign up here.
